Endurance - Quote of the day!

To endure is greater than to dare; to tire out the hostile fortune; to be daunted by no difficulty; to keep heart when all have lost it- who can say this is not greatness? ”

Grapeseed oil for Skin

So I've decided to use all homemade skin and haircare - ok I lie - I'm yet to apply any of my mixes to my face yet - I still use store bought cleaners, scrubs and cream - however for my body I moving on to my homemade creams, oils and butters. When I started wearing my hair naturally I sorta od'ed on oils - I was an oil junkie - I bought maybe over 20-30 different types of oils - one of the many was Grapeseed oil - I must say I really did not see any benefits of this oil until I started using it on it's own - no extra addtions - just plain grapeseed all over me body - OMG! it's excellent - no more Vaseline Cocoa butter cream for moi - YAY!

I'll list some of the benefits

1) It's a great moisturiser - easily absorbs into the skin - none of that greasy stuff
2) It's nourishing - I can really see the difference in me skin -
3) A little goes a long way - so it's economical
3) Google the rest of it :)- so far I'm only stating what I've noticed .

xx

Quotes of the day!

“Enjoy all you have while pursuing all you want. ”
Jim Rohn

“Those who make compassion an essential part of their lives find the joy of life. Kindness deepens the spirit and produces rewards that cannot be completely explained in words. It is an experience more powerful than words. To become acquainted with kindness one must be prepared to learn new things and feel new feelings. Kindness is more than a philosophy of the mind. It is a philosophy of the spirit. ”

Oprah's Lifeclass

Oprah's Lifeclass I believe is the best thing on TV right now. I usually do not watch TV let alone DVR programs - but I had to record the shows. I've had a gazillion aha moments - incredible!. Infact the OWN network has been busting out fab programs - Visionaries is my second favourite.
I've never been a lover or rather follower of fashion - but watching Tom Ford on Visionary was inspiring. It didn't inspire me to buy his clothes - because I'm still not a lover of fashion - but the man is AMAZING!! UTTER BRILLIANCE.

Nothing lasts! he admits what he does is all material and will fade - but I see drive, character, excellence, confidence - impeccable taste. It inspired me to do everything I commit to well. I often procrastinate, a big dreamer, idealist - I dream BIG - but sometimes you have to break that dream into small chunks - don't say it often just keep it within and blow everyone away.

Back to Oprah's lifeclass - Today's question ''

What memories of the past still dominate your thinking?
What do you need to let go of?*

Right now err none - but for awhile I regretted not going to the right University. But I've learnt that the best schools do not guarantee the best jobs. I also regret giving my power away - well not knowing my value and just accepting what I was given. I also wish I had my parents around in my teen years to help me make the right decisions - I always felt that I will be years ahead than where I am today if I had them around in the same country rather than thousand of miles away.  I thank God because it made me a strong independent woman.
Ok back to the question - I don't think I have any memories that still dominate my thinking - but what I've finally let go of is fear - well I think I'm 95% there - way better than 50% - so I'm still work in progress

Stillness

Who says God doesn't speak to you. I'm hurting right now and today this morning he told me

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.

~ Psalm 37:7, NLT

How can I not listen. It's all about stillness. It is well with my soul. I cannot give up now- come too too far.

You're seen, You're heard, You matter!!!

You're seen, You're heard, You matter!!! Thanks Oprah.

So simple, yet so powerful. Isn't that what we all want out of life - To matter. Infact we all matter but most of us do not know our value. Have you ever gone to the jewellery store to purchase jewellery and instead of the clerk telling you how much the diamond is worth he asks you what it's worth - errr Crazy! it doesn't happen like that - no one absolutely no one can put a price on you unless you let them.

I learnt this the hard way - from maybe age 21-24 my early years in the corporate world - my worth was based on the glowing reviews I got from work, I did a lot of kiss arse intially, I didn't think my voice was loud enough, I didn't think what I did was that important - - fast forward a decade later and I know exactly what my worth is ........

Do you know how much you're worth?

sorry for ending abruptly - started this post y'day - lost me train of thoughts

Originality no Artificiality! Fela Rocks!

Fela Anikulapo Kuti

Fela! the musical finally came to Atlanta and I had to go see it. It was showing for only 6 days. How could I not go? - Fela's music reconnected me back to my roots - not that I was lost , but I was slowly getting disconnected from my African heritage. After living in the UK for more than a decade - I was expose to all sorts of music - Indie, Garage, House,  Dance, Rap etc - at one point I was a hip hop head - or maybe I was rebelling - but I loved hip hop then - from Tupac, Biggie, Memphis Bleek, NWA, Wu Tang, Method man, Redman, Nas, Busta, Common, Dr Dre, Craig Mack etc you name it I had it - at one point I was buying up to 5 hiphop cds weekly ---ok I'm slowing drifting..

My favourite Fela songs growing up was Lady, Shakara, Zombie - there was something about the beats.Back then I didn't really care much for the political message - I just loved singing along - 'she go say , she go say I be lady oo' - fastforward a decade later in London I found Fela's album on a colleagues itune playlist - I was in awe - this is cool - a white Canadian that listens to Fela - very cool- I asked for a copy of the album and tis been love since -

Fela is obviously a controversial figure, he was a sex machine, polygamist, weed smoker, violent but we all have shortcomings - Fela was fearless, he spoke his mind, he kept true to himself, he stood for what he believed in, he was a master of his art, he was inspirational ,he was brilliant , just like Bob Marley, Tupac, Beatles , Michael Jackson etc -there was none like him - in his own words he was an Original no Artificiality.

Oh the show was amazing by the way - I would definitely recommend.

One thing I learnt from Fela was that he knew he was light and he wanted to shine as brightly as possible.
Let your light shine for all to see - In the words of Tupac - if you have nothing to live for you best find something to die for

Nursing a Sick Child!!

You really do not know the gift of health until you're sick. The past few days have been a nightmare. T caught a virus from one of his cousins in the UK. I initially was blase about it and thought meh 1-2 days it will go away - but no the fever, coughing, was persistent -Talk about sleepless nights - T will wake up at 3am and start crying, there was absolutely nothing we could do to soothe him - he was tired, weak and in pain - I felt helpless

After almost 3days of constant 101F + temp we decided to take him to the Docs -err waste of time.com. We arrived the clinic at 9am for our 9am appointment. We were met by a rude Nurse who couldn't be arsed to look up T's name -instead she rudely asked 'What is the child's name'? errr what?? this isn't NHS darling - I am paying for this ish - I absolutely HATE poor customer service -in my opinion if you're having a bad day then you should take the day off and if people are not your thing then the hospitality and care business shouldn't be either -- arrghhh ! can't stand rude people.

Anyhoo - after taking T's temp and weighing him - she rudely asked - What's wrong with the child? At this point she hadn't introduced herself  - so  I said err sorry what is your name? what is your role? (in me head, i'm thinking I really can't be arsed to repeat meself all over again so best to get me the doc or the right person') - I'm a Nurse, she responded - the Dr will be with you shortly - I said Ok then I'll tell the doctor what is wrong with him.

About 10mins later the Doctor walked in - well I thought she was a Dr, until she introduced herself as a Senior Nurse practitioner -(arrghhh don't they have docs in the frigging place) - anyhoo - I mentioned all of T's symptoms and requested Antibiotics(AB). She said sorry we don't give Antibiotics for Virus, AB is only for Bacterial infection (arrrghh so why am I here) - she said there's nothing we can give you, keep using the Motrin to bring down the fever, he should drink plenty fluids and the virus will run its course - errrr $25 copay later for nada -

In all seriousness - I believe the UK NHS system has spoilt me - I always seem to run to the Dr every 5mins or at least want some sort of prescription later - All in all T is doing much better now - he still has a bit of running nose - but the fever has gone down - Phew!!! thank God

Twas only 5days of headache, I really can't imagine what other mothers are going thru with their sick babies in ICU etc - I pray God gives them the strength to make it thru - We sometimes feel we have nothing to be thankful for - the gift of heath and life are more than enough...

October's challenge - Strictly positive thinking!!

Hi there,

Ok I watched a video on TED of a guy that challenged himself to try something new for 30days. I watched this video maybe about 2 months ago and didn't really act on it. After my 100miles running challenge with the WEWgroup last month (September) - I figured hmmm I'm liking this - what is my October challenge going to be? I thought about the many activities/interests I would like to do - I'm always so busy , I can totally entertain myself - joys of being the last child of older siblings - yeah my siblings were all 10 - 17yrs older than moi - which meant I was pretty much on me jack jones growing up - my imaginary friends and my Dad kept me going at home - but I did have a few friends at school - so wasn't too much of a loner :)

Anyhoo, I didn't want to embark on yet another activity or interest - I have way too many and I do enjoy all of them but instead I wanted to try out a mental one - you know people always say think positive - I'm no.1 think positive person and I can give you 100 reasons on the spot why you're incredible and all that feel good talk - it's just my nature (the hubby hates it sometimes) - but I really don't know where I get it from - I'm always elevating - anyhoo so yes I'm a big on encouraging, motivating, inspiring etc - but one thing I've never CONSCIOUSLY done is control my thoughts 100% of the time - like seriously - can it be done? can I really think positive 24hrs of the day, can I actively change my thoughts regardless of the circumstances -so when that eediot guy cuts me off whilst driving or when the day appears to be going downhill or when that annoying friend of mine who only thinks of herself calls - can i stay positive? you see it might be easy on the big/serious stuff like finance, health, relationships etc - but what about the little haps of the day that tend to make 80% of the day - the mind is constantly in motion -

All of this led to my October challenge - actively controlling 100% of my thoughts - from negative to positive/constructive. OMG! it's been hard - mind you I started maybe on the 4th , it's been 4days now and my goodness - I've fallen off the proverbial wagon a few times but I must say it's been a good experience so far.

I dare you to try it .......sounds simple but pretty hard.

Live - Life

I once read that if you're still breathing then you're still needed here on earth and you can still fulfill your purpose. We all will die, we just don;t know when - thus is best to do great things with the time that we are given - I've chosen to love more and give more -and to make a difference in my own little way

Live-Life is an ability to live your life to the fullest potential.
